"RMB drag&drop pop-up" - question

Post by AbteriX »

An older bad behaviour (IMHO) i reported already bevor months by mail is...

... if i right click and drag and drop an file to the other panel
i get an pop-up menu with the options
Move here
Copy here
Other...
------------
Cancel

I want to create an link to that file... so i click "Other..."
Than (i think) a DLL is called and provide me "Create an Link" (in german words)

Question:

why is there this sub menu in this pop-up ?
Can't there be this "Create an Link" -item in the main pop-up too?

Like
Move here
Copy here
Create an Link
Other...
------------
Cancel

Because i want to RMB-d&d and then just click on "Create an Link"

.
Other opinions ?
Or should i learn to use "Ctrl+C" / "Ctrl+S" ?

We know about this flaw and know how to solve it. Unfortunately, the fix is quite complicated (shell extenstion must be implemented), so it was postponed.

Thank you for reporting it.

As a (faster) workaround, you could press the Alt-Key while you drag the file. It creates a Link.

As a last resort try to read Windows help/manual...
BTW, Help and Support Center in Windows XP is really useful tool.
Windows keyboard shortcuts overview wrote:CTRL while dragging an item  Copy selected item.
CTRL+SHIFT while dragging an item  Create shortcut to selected item.

You can also "drag" a file by using right mouse button. On the target then just choose the action you want from the context menu.

Aha, "CTRL+SHIFT while dragging an item"
will do the same as "press ALT while dragging an item" , fascinating.

Thank you all for the tips.
