Number of connections used by the FTP plugin

Post by roman2 »

I've run into a problem when transferring many small files. The server reports too many connections opened from my IP address. I've had this problem with FileZilla too, but it seems to have gone after I set the max number of connections to 1. How many connections does Salamander's FTP plugin use?

IFAIK the FTP plugin uses just 1 connection by default (i.e. unless you click on Advanced and add connections manually). What I've noticed however, is that sometimes the connections get cut off often and as the plugin reconnects, it may use up all of the allotted connections before the server times out the old ones. Naturally, the problem gets worse if the network connection is unreliable. But again, I regularly copy using from 50% to 75% of the maximum allowed connections.

How many connections does the server allow? Could you look at the copying process and see if it reconnects a lot?

Yes, FTP plugin uses just one connection if you do not order it to use more connections by Add button in FTP operation progress dialog. Reconnecting may be problem, you can see FTP logs to find out what's happening.

You could click on Advanced and look if there's any suspicious messages about reconnecting. Or, as Petr said, you could look at the logs afterwards (menu Plugins > FTP Client > Show Logs...).
