drag'n drop to network locations that are not assigned to drive letters

Copying files or folders by drag'n drop in a network enviroment only seems to work after having assigned a drive letter to a network path. In home environments where there are usually various network locations that are accessible by commands like

\\Network-PC\path

drag'n drop seems not to work. You have to use the "F5"-hotkey instead.

Is this a bug or a feature?
