Deletes and copies taking too long

Post by docfxit »

I have been experiencing very long delays when trying to delete or copy files.

Delete 4 files in local C drive 110 seconds.
The files were not compressed. Not ziped files.
All exe files.
In options, configuration, Drives all check boxes are not checked to use automatic refresh.
I'm running XP Pro
Ver. 2.53 beta 2

When I try to do something all programs lock up.

Thanks,

Docfxit

Are you using Delete to Recycle Bin or Permanent Delete?

Thank you for the reply.

I am moving all deleted files and directories to the Recycle Bin.

Could you please try the same operation from Windows Explorer?

Try with AV and UAC switched off.

How do you switch off UAC in XP Pro?

There is no UAC in XP.

CTFMON.EXE caused delays for me (though not to the extent that you are seeing).
See, Problem: Delayed View and Delete Operations.

I found and solved the problem. To resolve the problem I re-installed old drivers for my USB devices. There must have been some incompatibility with the updated drivers.

It made it look like there was a problem with Salamander.

Thank you all for your input.

What kinds of USB devices?
What drivers are needed for them? (Usually aren't needed in XP.)

In your opening thread, you said the trouble was with your local, C drive?

If you go into Device Manager at the bottom you will see USB devices.

I did say my local C Drive. And I was experiencing long delays when deleting files from my local C Drive. While in Salamander the USB thumb drive was on the other side. I can't answer why I had the delays on the C Drive. All I know is when I replaced the device drivers for the USB most of the problem went away. I am not experiencing the long delays from deletes, copies or moves. I am still experiencing long delays when the PC decides to freeze every once in a while. I suspect it might be another driver but I have no idea which one it might be.

Thanks,
