3.08 Windows 10 drag and drop url from browser to AS file panel

Post by ZekeMidasWool »

Hi.

In Windows 10 i cannot drag url from a web browser to the Salamander file panel.
Tested IE, FF and Chrome
Tried when AS is running as administrator and normal.
I am local administrator on the pc.

I cant drag url's to Explorer either.

Could you suggest a work around ? - or if it is intended to be that way in Windows 10, make AS support drag and drop to file panels as with previous versions of Windows ?

Best regards,

Just tested and I can not see any problem. I have Windows 10 x64, it works from Chrome x64 and Firefox x86 to Salamander x64 and x86. In browser I select any text, then drag&drop selection to Salamander main windows to Directory Line (line with current path above panel) or to Command Line (line below panels). I can also select current page's URL in browser (use Alt+D key to focus it) then drag&drop it to Salamander (it does not support http/https paths, so it reports error, but drag&drop works).

Please describe in detail what you are doing differently and what you expect to happen.

Open AS
Navigate to a folder under desktop
open google chrome
go to google.com
point the mouse to the padlock next to the url
press down left mouse button
move the mouse over the file panel in AS
the mouse pointer changes to a no parking sign. the url cannot be dropped.

It works here. It creates shortcut when you drop it to panel or tries to change path if you drop it to Directory Line.

Can someone else reproduce this problem?

I'm unable to reproduce this problem, it works fine with my Windows 10 upgraded to Creators Update. Maybe it is some Windows Policy option, I have no idea right now.

Tried when the AS panel displays another path; c:\temp\ - the same.

Drag drop to windows file explorer works ok.

Current problem partly solved.
It was running as administrator.

When i run it as user i can drag/drop files to document folders, but under program files folders i cannot create/change files.

So
- As Administrator it's not possible to drag/drop files to AS
- As User it's not possible to do changes in program files and sub folders.

That is because of different user context. Salamander does not support UAC yet. (its a work in progress).
So, this is not a bug, its a operating system limitation to avoid user screw ups.
If you are a experienced user and knwo what you are doing, you can allways disable UAC.

Look for UAC 9Usser access control) in this forum and you will see that this kind of question was answered many many times.

Yes, I'm local administrator on the pc, and not administrator on the domain.

Then it should work, although I think you should not put data in to the "Program files" nor "Program files (x86)" folders.
Yet there is one more possibility - there are domain policies applied, which prevent certain actions.

File and folder management in program files + /(x86) is part of my job.
On my old pc, with windows 7, when AS was in Administrator mode i could manage files in all folders, as well as drag and drop links, mail files etc to the AS file panels. Logged in with the same AD account, and also being local administrator.

It looks like this issue is a windows 10 "improvement", and it is the same in windows file explorer, so i request that AS is made capable of receiving drag and drop in the file panel when it is opened in administrator mode.
