Network Neighborhood default action

Post by Scott »

In beta 10 and previous versions, the default action or focus when Network Neighborhood was opened was at the top node of the network tree. The user could then immediately navigate to a destination with the cursor (arrow) keys. This was fast and efficient, since no mouse action was required.

In beta 11 the default action has changed to the Cancel button. This is a poorer design than in beta 10 for the following reasons:
1. It now takes a mouse action to navigate the network tree, so the process is slower and less convenient.
2. The primary purpose of opening Network Neighborhood is to navigate the tree, but the beta 11 design assigns the default action to a minor purpose (cancel).
3. Assigning the default action to Cancel is a waste because the same action can be accomplished with Escape.

WISH:
Return to the beta 10 design, with the default focus on the top node of the network tree.

Thanks for considering this.

There is maybe some problem on your side. For me the behavior of beta 11 is still the same as in version beta 10 and previous versions: focus is at the top node of the network tree.

This may be side effect of upgrading Network Neighborhood window (it is Windows feature, not ours) to newer version with window resize possibility. We have found out that there is another unwanted feature (window in new version does not open login prompt window if user has no access to server), so we have returned to old version of this window. So, this problem should be away in next version of Salamander.

So the Network Neighborhood window will again lost the window resize possibility? It's a pity, but I understand that correctly working Network Neighborhood window has higher priority...

Yep - that's true and very annoying!:x

That means: no window resize possibility :(
Kind regards, KNUT

We will completely replace this dialog box: ALTAP Roadmap - Browsing network neigborhood in panel.

When this plugin will be available (and if there will be demand), we can create our own implementation of this dialog box.
