FULL version will not install on Win2k

I just reformatted and reinstalled Win2k and service paks..

Now the FULL version of Salamander will not install.

I have tried to install from a fresh downloaded file and the install from location.
NEITHER WILL INSTALL and get the same error.

BUT.. The lite version will install !!!!

The ERROR message is,
"ERROR IN COMPRESSED STREAM, ARCHIVE CORRUPTED"

YET.. I can take the same file to my XP machine, and using the same file that fails on my Win2K machine, I am able to install Salamander perfectly on the XP machine!

HELP !!!!

Anne, try to start setup again when first attempt fails.

We saw this problem before and not sure what caused this. Repeated start helped.

Please let us know...

Could you also verify MD5 checksum?
ss25rc2f.exe, 5 716 911 bytes, MD5: 9ED4E588E9626B32B4DA4D840A0F4D4D
(menu Plugins > Checksum)

I did a reformat of the hard drive AGAIN, and reinstalled the OS with service paks AGAIN !

Still will not install.

The size is correct, but I downloaded it again.

The FULL version will not even finish extracting so how am I supposed to verify the checksum???

Please try this:

1. rename ss25rc2f.exe to ss25rc2f.7z
2. using standard ("lite") version of Salamander extract this archive to some temporary directory
3. in this directory run setup.exe

Does it help?

1. I installed STANDARD version
2. Changed FULL version extension to.7z
3. Used STANDARD version to extract data to a temp DIR
**** while extracting to the temp DIR, I had a CRC error on the
Salamand.exe file, clicked "OK" and extraction continued.
4. Extraction finished
5. Ran SETUP without a problem

Tried SAME process on the XP machine
-- did NOT get a crc error on the Salamand.exe file while extracting !

Anne, please start standard version of Salamander, focus ss25rc2f.exe in panel.

Then from menu Plugins > Checksum choose the Calculate CRC/MD5 Checksums commad.
The MD5 checksum should be: 9ED4E588E9626B32B4DA4D840A0F4D4D, otherwise downloaded file is really corrupted.

Jan Rysavy,

Checksum is correct

HOW can the file be corrupted ?
It installs correctly with no problems on an XP machine ?????

SelfMan,

YES, it is an older machine with the VIA chipset and an AMD K6 processor

I though so...
First of all check for the latest BIOS for the motherboard and update it.
Second, go to
http://www.viaarena.com/default.aspx?Pa ... CatID=1230
download and install the chipset drivers.

This should help to fix your problem.
You can read more info about the problem on this page:

I have no idea :)
Just trying to rule out "other" possibilities to localize problem.

Please let us know regarding VIA chipset...

I did the via chipset thing, and the bios is up to date.

NO difference. Still get the "error in compressed stream" when trying to exexcute the file.

Could you please try to expand ss25rc2f.7z using latest 7-zip archiver? (Open source project http://www.7-zip.org/ ).

The 7-Zip plugin and installer self-extractor are based on this project, maybe we should update to latest version...

I installed 7-Zip 4.42

Performed a 7-Zip "TEST", "OPEN", and "EXTRACT" on the files
ss25rc2f.exe and ss25rc2f.7z

The result of ALL operations was the message
(filename.ext) is not a supported archive

Anne, I'm sorry, I forgot 7-Zip is not able to skip self-extractor header (find archive signature).

As I said before, when I change the extension to 7z and extract the files using the STANDARD version of Salamander, The file that shows an error is the Salamand.exe file. Clicking OK on the error lets me finish the extraction.

NEW INFO.. I have found that if I try multiple time to extract the SALAMAND.exe file, from the ss25rc2f.7z using the STANDARD version of Salamander, that the Salamand.exe file will sometimes extract without an error.

So I tried to use the ss25rc2f.exe file. No matter how many times I try to use the ss25rc2f.exe file, I get the error message.

Hope this helps.

BTW, Once I extracted the FULL version without any CRC errors, I installed it on the Win2k machine and it seems to be working correctly so far.

It looks to me like there must be something in the actual Salamand.exe file contained in the ss25rc2f.exe install file. The standard has no problems and doing the change of the extension on the full version does allow the files to be extracted. ALthough I am still confused as to how a file can have a CRC error and then not have a CRC error and then have a CRC error again????? BUT hey, Thats just the mind of a woman thinking again... :-)
