I haven't seen any delete command within the log.
You've been just browsing the folders.
Anyway, there might be some other issues wih the access rights.

It seems that you have no access rights to delete files in this directory, try to get these rights and try again.

This is the log for panel connection only, each operation has its own log (see combobox in FTP Logs window). Use menu Log > Save All As to save all logs to file. Anyway, this is probably problem only with access rights, so these logs are not necessary now.

Hi,

Thank you for the reply,

I was signed on as the Security Officer. qsecofr. That user profile has rights to everything on an AS/400 - SystemI - I5.

Hi,

I found the log for the delete session. I signed on with the same user and deleted one of the same files. Here is the log:

Delete File "(2nd last version of) ieupdate.DAT" from domain.com
Host: "domain.com", port: 21.
Log UID is 1, time is 11/20/2006 - 10:47:11 PM.

(22:47:11): Deleting file "(2nd last version of) ieupdate.DAT"...
DELE (2nd last version of) ieupdate.DAT
550 Unable to delete /home/PCConsole/D/BACKUP/Program Files/Uninstall Information/ieupdate/(2nd last version of) ieupdate.DAT
(22:47:18): Connection was returned to panel...

Thank you,

As you can see, this is not a prolem of servant salamander.
The delete command is sent successfully.
What you get back is a message from the FTP server that it cannot delete the file. Possible reasons:
- user has no permition to delete files (FTP Server config)
- server has no permition to delete files (File system level)

You should check the filesystem access rights to that folder.

Hi Gary! ;-) Or am I wrong?

Maybe it is problem with not properly parsed filename. Does the filename "(2nd last version of) ieupdate.DAT" (without double quotes) seem to be OK? I thought that AS/400 is not supporting filenames with spaces, etc. Can you e.g. view this file (or download it to local disk)?

If you want to use delete command for other filename, you can enter FTP command manually, just right-click in panel and choose Send FTP Command and enter the modified command (original is "DELE (2nd last version of) ieupdate.DAT" (again without quotes), DELE is command for delete, it should be followed by single space character and filename). Try e.g. "DELE ieupdate.DAT". If you find out how to delete these files, I'll try to patch FTP client. Thanks!

Hi Petr,

The answer to your first question is yes.

You had the best guesses. It wasn't a permissions problem at all. The files were set with the Read Only flag. I tried to remove the read only flag with Servant Salamander and couldn't. I get a window that says:
"Change Attributes will probably not work on this server. It works only on UNIX servers. Do you still want to use Change Attributes command?"

It should probably have the word "THE" in the question.
Do you still want to use the Change Attributes command?

Since the file system on the AS/400 is UNIX I thought it should work. Unfortunately the Change Attributes command when used with FTP changes permissions and does not have the function to change the read only flag. I'm going to take a guess that a UNIX server doesn't have a read only flag. Even though this part of the file system on the AS/400 does act like a UNIX server it also allows the read only flag.

Is there a way I can help you see that flag? I left one file there with the flag on just in case you would like to test with it.

As a side note. I had a funny thing happen to me. Evidently the FTP within Servant Salamander must have a cache for the files. This is the sequence of events that happened.
1. I used Servant Salamander FTP on my local PC to look at the files on a remote AS/400.
2. I stopped FTP on my local PC and didn't close out of SS.
3. I went onto a remote PC on the same LAN as the AS/400 to remove the read only flag and delete three of the four files.
4. I started up FTP on my local PC and saw all 4 files. I thought I deleted 3 of the files and didn't expect to see them.
5. I asked Servant Salamander to delete one of the files. It gave me the same 550 error. I chose the skip option. When the screen returned the 3 files I had deleted from the remote PC were gone.

I thought you might like to know the files weren't refreshed when I started FTP up the second time.

Thank you,

Well, so it is only the same nick name. Does "docfxit" mean something special on AS/400? Gary is also connected with AS/400. :-)

The Change Attributes command warns whenever it does not find Unix format of listing, where access rights are at the beginning of each line (e.g. -rw-r--r--). You can use this command only to change basic Unix rights (rwxrwxrwx).

You may see if the read-only flag is in the raw listing (right-click in panel, choose Show Raw Listing). In all cases, I have no idea how to change this flag from FTP client, you may consult FTP server documentation (maybe it will do it using SITE command).

Yes, FTP client uses cache for listings and viewed files, see Advanced button in Connect dialog (checkbox Use cache for...). You can turn off this cache as default, see Defaults tab in FTP configuration (see menu Options / Plugin Configuration / FTP Client). Use Ctrl+R to reset this cache for the current path (including subdirs).
