Login fails for users with empty passwords

I have two computers and on one of them i have a user that has no password set. When the normal windows login dialog appears i just hit enter. If i try to connect to the computer with Servant Salamander it will fail saying that no domain could accept my login or something similar. To connect to the computer I first need to use windows explorer (and enter the user and password in the dialog it popup up) and then Servant Salamander won't ask for the password anymore and i can connect.

It seems that SS doesn't like empty password fields.

Can you connect using Windows Explorer or the command line command net use?

As far as I know, this is a security restriction enforced by the operating system.

Yes, i can connect with Windows Explorer.
I just type in the ip of the other computer (\\<ip>) and then the login dialog pops up. I enter the username, leave the password field blank and hit enter. It connects without a problem.

I just tried Servant salamander again and this time it worked  so it may be happening only on some occasions (the "error" has happened at least 2 times that i remember).
