New AS Plugin: Certificate Viewer

Post by vilo » 03 Dec 2018, 09:58

Recently we've been setting up PKI infrastructure at my work to secure our IoT devices, evaluating various certificate files, file formats, encryption key strenghts, etc. Soon there become a chaos in these files, what is what. Viewing file as raw data didn't tell me too much, useful information I could get with openssl command:

Code: Select all

openssl x509 -in certificate.crt -text -noout
but this is not so comfortable way. Also I had to know file format, and pass it to the cmd-line. And there become an idea of having a viewer plugin, which would automate such openssl commands, autodetect format and view certificate information.

I inspired with pe-viewer. I wrote this plugin a while ago, and finally now I found some spare time to finish it during this rainy winter time :D

I don't feel as a security expert, this is my first project with openssl, so your feedback is welcome. Source code is available here:

Here are the cert-viewer binaries:
- ... (x86)
- ... (x64)

Binaries were compiled with Visual Studio 2017, so you will also need to install Visual C++ Redistributables from: ... -downloads

Maybe the maintainers could compile it with VS2008, to avoid this dependency, because I was too lazy to install such ancient IDE :D

So, feel free to use the new plugin, and if you find it useful, give it a star on github :)

Good work, Vilo. Seems this plugin will save me a lot of typing of OpenSSL command lines :) Thanks.
