Norton Commander (DOS) Find File had a Send to Panel feature which would take results of the Find & well, send them to a panel. Similar to the SS Filter... option, but the "filter" would be the file set of those found by Find. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v157/therube/th_FileFind1...

My A/V has a definite impact on what I am seeing.
Disabling my A/V greatly lessens the impact, but it is not eliminated entirely.

SS2.0 does not exhibit the conditions regardless.

SvA is likely running into this situation:
Why does UnZip say "'shrink' method not supported"?

http://www.info-zip.org/FAQ.html#unshrink
Or perhaps not.
Looks like SS supports both the older Shrink & Implode (zip) compression methods.

Perhaps it was a 'reduce' algorithm?

Another thought had occurred to me that I'll try to investigate tomorrow. Antivirus. F-Prot (3.16f) in my case. The realtime component. As directories are traversed, the A/V is scanning the files within. Assuming it is automatically scanning "known" file types; ZIP, RAR, EXE, & the lik...

Looking at it quickly, I'm getting the impression that one (or a combination) of my last changes is causing it to work better. I'll run things as is for a few days & see if it doesn't continue to work acceptably. Or maybe not? Perhaps even on "smaller" directories - though one that hav...

-Could you reproduce it regularly? I see it regularly. Reproduce, thats tougher. Nothing that I can say - do this, or do the other, & you will see... Simply moving from one directory to another. -Does it occur in some particular directory? No directory in particular. It can even be simply moving...

I turned off Hardware Acceleration but that made no difference.

I'm not seeing that?

At least not in Vista RC2.

Regardless of whether I have files highlighted or not, regardless of whether I use a shortcut (Ctrl+Shift+C) or access via the menu, or icon, File Comparator is working as expected.

I'm still here on this. Nothing scientific, but I am not running into the same situation when I have "Simple Icons" enabled. If you have anything you might want me to look for in particular - memory usage, CPU usage ... I'll give it a look. Putting SS on a different computer, Athlon XP 260...

Thanks.
I see you're reasoning, though I'll have to dwell on it before it sets in.
Just doesn't seem "natural"?

No I didn't. But I do now :D!
That is just what I was looking for.

One day I'll come to learn all the nuances of this program.
One day I'll get the time to RTM .

Compare Directories - Jump To Selected File(s)

Compare Directories - Jump To Selected File(s) When comparing directories, especially larger directories, at times there will only be a few files "Selected". Currently, there is no way to determine which files they are - without scrolling through the directory list, physically looking for ...

Thumbnail Highlighting

Suggestion: Thumbnail Highlighting I would not normally use Thumbnails, actually I almost exclusively use Details, but it came up in a thread here so I took a look. Thinking that the highlighting of the focused file could be improved - more obvious. In particular, it can be (somewhat) difficult to f...

Further, this only occurs if the current cursor location (focus) causes the first found file, to be one with no extension. If FAYT brings you first to a file with an extension, this will not occur. So if my list were sorted in descending order, focus on the first file in the list, typing AP2SA. woul...

(It may take me a number of days before I can investigate this further.)

Anyhow, I was off on my estimate of the number of files in each panel.

823 in one, 466 in another. These are the two directories that I would typically start up SS with. Even so, this is nothing out of the ordinary.
