I prepaired a Bug Report and mailed it.
I also tried your suggestions, but no change was brought about. Other icons in the Pannel Toolbars show up just as expected.

Icons on Change Drive button in Directory Line missing
On my Notebook, no drive icons on Change Drive button in Directory Line are displayed. Drive icons display ok on this button's selection menue and on the Drive Bar. My desktop machine does not show this problem. Both machines are set up alike: WinXP SP2, no visual tweaking beyond settings available ...
