Maybe this should simply follow the (to be) setting of (F2) renaming files - either the old way, or the new way. Altap, please don't preselect the name-part only in Shift+F4 New file dialog. I vote for the possibility of multiple column sort.
Usually used way is to hold the CTRL key and click on the desired column.
i.e.
sort files by extension > click ext
and sort the extension sorted list by date > hold ctrl and click date

What happen if you use a trailing backslash?
i.e. "\\sever\path\subdir\" instead of "\\sever\path\subdir"

In the czech part of this forum came a idea of a cyclic F2.
In example:
F2 > Select whole filename
F2 F2 > Select name
F2 F2 F2 > Select extension

Altap refused such implementation as non standard behavior, but I am interested in your opinions.
