yes, you're indeed right, Jan. tabbed browsing (+ workspaces) would help in quite a few situations. still i consider persistent selections nice thing to have. not just for preventing accidents. "multiple path version" could be very useful when creating list of files and directories to be c...

Oliver S, my idea should be handy even in the case of multiple instances. it would be up to you whether to open new workspace in the tab or start new salamander and open it there ... of course there's still the problem with configuration saving when you've multiple salamanders running. i guess that ...

Jan, jis and KNUT, thank you for your support and responses :). now, we would need more users to demand this ...

in the meantime, what about my other requests, persistent selections and user menu enhancements?

jan, i also run multiple instances of salamander ... from just one to 3, mostly just two. some info why and what would help is in my post here . as for tabbed browsing, yes, that would help. not sure what i would like better (tabbed vs. what i proposed), however my ideas would be actually very helpf...

Re: special character for a digit

for the things i want it for? well i don't think that would happen, plus it would be a little overkill. i would be happy enough with '#' for the time being.

user menu enhancements

some enhancements to the user menu system: - user should be able to tick 'separator' checkbox directly after creating new menu item using 'new' button or insert key. at the moment, you have to enter at least non-empty name for such an item before you can declare it to be a separator - new item shoul...

special character for a digit

i would like to be able to use special character for a digit in 'masks priority list' and 'viewers & editors' (and not only standard wildcards using * and ? characters). at the moment, there's support for such a character (#) in the archivers selection of config (for specifiying for example rar ...

KNUT, so what was the problem? Jan Rysavy, as far as i remember, salamander always used the default icons and not the custom ones. i have windows xp and i use stardock's iconpackager to create and change icon sets. the icons i use are smooth metal . i've tried using other ones, rebuilding icon cache...

settings sets (aka workspace settings)

this is the other one of the two productivity features i would use *a lot*. what: settings sets (maybe it would be best to call it 'workspaces' or 'workspace settings'). not the best name for it - simply put, beefed-up custom views. more precisely - switchable subsets of configuration settings relat...

persistent selections

this is one of the two productivity features i would use *a lot*. what: persistent selections. the idea is to add 'keep selection' switch to the selection commands (either under edit or edit -> advanced). when selected/checked (which could also be indicated by icon in the directory line as is the ca...

KNUT, did you have custom icons in previous betas (i didn't). it seems salamander is getting these icons directly from shell32.dll, so one would have to modify them there. it's not a big deal, however it would be nice to use custom (theme) icons, not the shell32.dll ones. would look better with my d...
