As the initial poster already mentioned TC, here is what I do:

Viewer:

Command: c:\....\TOTALCMD.EXE
Arguments: /S=L "$(FullName)"


And if I have to do something in Unicode, then F9 + the following menu entry to open the left/right directories from Salamander in TC:

Command: c:\....\TOTALCMD ...

In TC I display files that were changed within the last few hours in another color what is absolutely comfortable.

I really miss this in Salamander.

You can save it everywhere you want, even in the registry, Icons converted to B64 are not that large. I just wanted to point out a bottleneck, not a strong request to save it at a certain place. I wouldn't recommend saving any icons into the registry.
