Re: Why I am abandoning Altap Salamander

Okay, I reproduced the problem that the OP might be experiencing. It's not that SS cannot display a file with an "unusual" character in it. It's that it cannot operate on it in some way. Here's one example: Using a command prompt, I used the copy command to copy a text file to a file with ...

Re: Mapped network drive contents don't update

I've had a similar problem in which I cannot see a new file in the panel's listing of files on a network share, even after I force a refresh. However, it didn't matter whether it was a mapped drive or UNC path. And I also could not see it using Windows Explorer, even forcing Explorer to refresh. So ...

Re: Why I am abandoning Altap Salamander

I can understand the frustration here. I'm bothered only by the lack of Unicode support for the viewer, but I can use my text editor in read only mode to compensate. I couldn't image dealing often with this kind of problem in the Panels themselves. I do recall not using certain Greek letters in my f...

Re: Date & Time Variables for User Menu

Thanks! That worked very well! I didn't know I could use environment variables in the F9 command line like that. But in retrospect it makes a lot of sense.

Date & Time Variables for User Menu

It would be handy if we had date and time variables in the User Menu customization. One implementation might just be to add $[date] and $[time] that would return the current date and time formatted according to regional settings. Another approach might be to provide a syntax for custom format date /...

Windows-LeftArrow and Window-RightArrow

One nice feature that Win 7 introduces are the key combinations Windows-LeftArrow and Window-RightArrow. The key resizes and moves the focused window to the Left (or Right) side of the screen. So if you need to use Explorer to perform copies, these keys can give you the side-by-side directory panels...

Re: Network Copy-Speed Salamander vs. Windows

Thank you for the replies, therube and Jan. It was indeed a large directory structure that I was copying, and it did fail to "find" one file during the enumeration process because the file was named (on purpose) with an invalid character. Other copies that I've done went quickly.

Re: Network Copy-Speed Salamander vs. Windows

Just upgraded to Win 7 64-bit yesterday. Not only is transfer rate slow, there is a huge delay before the transfer even begins. So I'm looking forward to the new version.

Re: Automation Plugin: Fails to recognize AppPath

Thank you for responding and for pointing out the new help file. Unfortunately, it does not help. My bug report is about the fact that the Automation Configuration does not recognize the $[AppData] environment variable. I don't understand what this has to do with the help file. Please let me know if...

Automation Plugin: Fails to recognize AppPath

I just discovered the Automation Plugin. Wow! I created my first "Hello World.vbs" script. I put it in the directory "C:\Documents and Settings\TimeGhost\Application Data\Altap\Altap Salamander\Automation\scripts" but it doesn't show up on the list of scripts. So then I added tha...

Editor Command No Longer Takes Parameters

I had this set in the configuration for Editor (same as is v2.52): Command: c:\EMACS22\bin\gnuclientw.exe -q -F Arguments: ($Name) Initial Directory: ($FullPath) Pressing F4 to edit a file worked in v2.52. But in v2.53 beta 1, it no longer works. I get a message box: --------------------------- Erro...

Thanks so much for providing this bug fix. I was having problems viewing all the computers on the network. I could see only a limited number of host names, like a previous poster wrote.

Now I can browse the entire network, and the response time is much faster.

I'm using Win XP SP3.

Colors Configuration

In an older version of AS (or maybe SS), I was able to have: - Read Only files colored Red. - Compressed files that are not Read Only colored blue. Now I cannot get both color schemes to be set at once even though the file attributes are mutually exclusive. Maybe I'm doing something wrong? Or maybe ...
